A year after the final of The Good Wife, a huge financial scam is destroying the reputation of Maia’s young lawyer and destroying the savings of her mentor, Diane Lockhart. The two women left Lockhart, Deckler, Gussman, Lee, Lyman, Gilbert-Lurie, Kagan, Tannebaum and associates to join Reddick, Boseman and Kolstad, led by African-American associates. The firm stands out by tackling cases of police brutality in Illinois. During season two, Diane becomes a partner and the firm takes the name Reddick, Boseman & Lockhart.
The story is dotted with many political and social commentaries and offers an exploration of topical topics, such as the emergence of the alt-right, the #MeToo movement, online harassment and the phenomenon of fake news.
In addition to the difficulties of adapting to a new life and a new working environment, Diane, a long-time Democrat, is increasingly troubled by Donald Trump’s policy and the actions of his government. A former employee of Diane, Lucca Quinn thrives at Reddick, Boseman and Kolstad, where she aims to become an associate partner. She is trying to find the balance between her work and the loving relationship she has with prosecutor Colin Morello, whom she regularly confronts in the courts. Meanwhile, Diane’s goddaughter Maia is trying to get her judicial career started, but she is under pressure from the FBI, which is investigating her alleged involvement in her father’s Ponzi scheme.
Like The Good Wife, The Good Fight features a large number of second roles, including a recurring team of opposing counsel, clients, police officers, FBI officers, judges and politicians. Many are played by famous actors who appear as guest stars
